2020 Awards

The Community Person of the Year awards were presented on 1 December at the Council chambers. For obvious reasons the presentation to Karen Lavers and Bronwyn Evans were socially distanced. The Town Mayor, Councillor Graham Waite,  presented the awards and had this to say:-

“Welcome to Karen and Bronwyn for our award ceremony for the Buntingford Community Person of the Year.

It is such a shame that the pandemic means that we cannot present these awards as we did last year at the Lights of Love ceremony and that more people will not be able to share this with us.

However the awards are just as valid and the people of Buntingford have voted in your favour because of the tremendous and invaluable work of the Buntingford Food bank. Your untiring efforts are a credit to you both and I am sure that the many families that you help would love to be here to thank you personally.

On their behalf the Buntingford Civic Society, the Chamber of Commerce, the Town Council and the people of Buntingford and the surrounding villages are delighted to present you with these awards and offer their utmost thanks and respect for all that you do for the community.”

Karen Lavers, set up and runs the Buntingford Food Bank – currently delivering food parcels to people’s homes whilst people can’t get out.  In November she delivered 60 food parcels (last November – 15).  Karen also initiated the Walk-in Market and lock-down bear hunts during this year of Covid.  The Under 20s Award goes to Bronwyn Evans, age 12, who helps her Mum at the Food Bank and keeps all the records. Bronwyn gives her pocket money to charities, including to the homeless.  Both are a credit to Buntingford.
